Tiwa Savage has come out to clear the air on the rumours spreading around that Burna Boy is hating on her recently bagged international deal with American music giant company; Universal Music Group.
You all would recall Burna Boy released a statement just days after Tiwa’s deal, likening some Nigerian artistes who sign international deals with foreign companies to slaves.
The statement however created a frenzy on the internet as some people bashed Burna Boy calling him an hater while some went direct and revealed he was hating on Tiwa Savage.
However in an interview with Bella Naija, Tiwa Savage revealed Burna wasn’t hating on her and he understands exactly the point he was driving at as she feels he was even telling the truth because some artistes sign deals they don’t scrutinize very well prior to the signing.
She also revealed it took her 12 months to decide on signing her deal with Universal Music Group as she had to make sure all the terms and conditions were favourable to her through the help of her lawyers.
She said; “I think it’s important for artistes to be 100% sure and aware of what they’re getting themselves into, especially when it comes to contracts, Burna is 1000% correct.
“People took it out of context, maybe. It’s a great advice to any artiste; make sure you see your lawyers and do your personal research. It took me a year to conclude this deal, It took that long for a reason, It took a year to convince them that I don’t want this and I want that and this is the reason why. They understood. I feel blessed in the position I’m in.
“I have an amazing deal with UMG and I agree with Burna that while we’re pushing Africa to the World, we need to be careful that we don’t lose ourselves. I think that’s what he’s trying to say.”
